Fifth week, the jam is over!


This is it, the final day of the jam. With it comes the last update (for the jam) that will be uploaded here. The rest of the updates won't have anything to do with the jam any more, and we will keep the files separate. So the jam version shall exist forever not only in our hearts, but in the website as well.

Now comes the juicy part, what has changed since the last week.

We have a main menu when launching the game, you can start your adventure or exit. You can also check the development team, as we have a small credits box in there. Those might not be much, but it's a start and there might be more options in the future. There's a third option that's hidden from view at the start, as it's only shown when you have saved your progress.

With that comes the next part, the checkpoints, finally added one to the build, made some changes to it to make it look a bit flashier (since before you couldn't even tell if there was a checkpoint at all), you can interact with it and your progress will be saved, this means, when the party gets defeated, you will appear at the checkpoint in the same state as you saved. This also unlocks that third option in the main menu, letting you load the game from wherever you saved after closing the game, going for a walk, etc.

There's another menu, the mighty pause menu from inside the game. You can pause whenever by pressing the Esc key. And you will have three options there, continue playing, as you came back from doing whatever needed your attention at the moment; load from last checkpoint, we all know that having a fast way of loading from where you last saved can be a time saver; and lastly going back to the main menu, it might not seem like a very interesting option, but it's always good to have, even more so when much later the menu gets bloated with so many different options. There might be more options in the future.

There were a few bugs in the last build that have been fixed:

  • Some animations were shared among enemies, like when you hit one of them and they all lit up like lanterns.
  • Reloading some scenes crashed the game.
  • Some platforms and enemies have been tweaked to actually do what they should have done two builds ago.
